Via Ferrata of Villefort to do absolutely so the frame is beautiful

I am going to do the Via Ferrata “Villefort” Castanet which is located on the shore of Lake Villefort in Lozère. The route of the via ferrata of Villefort is varied and sensational: monkey bridges, footbridges, passage to the water, vertical and gaseous parts for the more adventurous and to close this enchantment of beauty a tyrolean of 60 meters.

A via ferrata (Italian for “iron road”, plural vie ferrate or in English via ferratas) is a protected climbing route found in the Alps and certain other locations. The term “via ferrata” is used in most countries and languages except notably in German-speaking. The via ferrata is also the practice of this type of itinerary, an intermediate activity between hiking and climbing.

In France, the history of the Via Ferratas dates back to 1988. It is on this date that the valley of Freissinière hosts the first equipment claiming the name of “via ferrata”. The Vigneaux itinerary (the busiest in France with 15,000 people a year) and the Aiguillette du Lauzet will follow shortly thereafter.

Via Ferrata “Villefort” is superbly equipped and maintained. We can enjoyed the view and the site is very nice. The route does not present a very complicated passages, some slight slope. It is to do absolutely so the frame is beautiful.

What equipment should be carried for the via ferrata ?

– A climbing helmet

– A climbing harness

– A specific lanyard, equipped with two safety snap hooks and a shock absorber

– A pulley (if necessary)

– A backpack with warm, waterproof clothing, energy food, whistle, first-aid kit to deal with imponderables and sudden changes in weather conditions

– Shoes adapted to the course

– Water, at least 1 liter / person

It is possible to rent its equipment at the base of the leisure, or from “Grandeur Nature base de plein air” … http://grandeurnature48.com/

LENGTH: 1100 meters

DEVICE: 120 meters

Possibility also to reach the via by canoe from the nautical base (about 1h30 to go)

From Villefort take the road D901 direction Mende.

Go to the village of Castanet and at the exit take the first road on the left.

Cross the river “Altier” then follow signs via ferrata.

From the parking lot, the progression is without difficulty.

It takes about 15 minutes to reach the Via Ferrata.
