DJI’s two new Phantom 3, which one to choose ?
DJI’s two new drones, Phantom 3 Professionnal and Phantom 3 Advanced, which one to choose ?
I’ll have to choose between in two distinct models the Phantom 3 Professional, which includes a brand new high-quality 4K camera and the Phantom 3 Advanced, which includes an updated version of their HD camera, can record at up to 60fps in full HD.
DJI announced that the new drones will feature integration with the DJI’s Pilot app, which was originally paired with their higher end Inspire 1 drone. The app allows users to control almost every aspect of the drone itself and the built-in camera, offering a wide range of manual control over the images that you capture.
Both models have been build from the ground up to be easier to use and navigate. This includes a redesigned flight controller that is far more responsive to even the lightest touch, and sensor technology borrowed from their higher end drones that keeps the Phantom 3 stable and level, even at extremely low altitudes.
Phantom 3 weighs 1280 grams with the battery and the self-locking screws. Diagonal, with installed propellers, it measures 68.9 cm. DJI indicates that it is able to climb to 6 meters per second (21 km / h) down to 2 meters per second (7 km / h), flying horizontally to 16 meters per second (57 km / h) ATTI fashion (that is to say, stabilized without GPS). Phantom Remote Controller_Il 3 is capable of flying up to 6,000 meters high, in fact the flight ceiling is limited this altitude.
GPS positioning enjoys a chip compatible with both the American GPS and Russian Glonass, which ensures the position detection speed and accuracy of one meter. Directly inherited from Inspire, Phantom 3 has a sonar and a camera located below the hull. The sonar allows the flight controller to keep the unit at a constant height without the help of GPS, for example indoors. It works up to 3 meters high. The camera can freeze the device in a location, still without GPS. This technology works very satisfactorily with a floor that this reasons and do not move, and when the brightness is sufficient (greater than 15 lux).
The camera is mounted on a platform stabilized in 3 axes. It is controllable on the pitch, that is to say, it is possible to tilt down to -90 ° (vertical) and up to + 30 °. It is a model based on a Sony Exmor 1 / 2.3 12.4 megapixel sensor. The lens displays a FOV (angle) of 94 ° at f2.8, the focus is fixed at infinity. It corrects the fish-eye effect automatically. The camera operates between ISO 100 and 1600 (for the photo) or 3200 for the video. The photographs are taken in a resolution of 4000 x 3000 pixels in JPEG or RAW (DNG). The shooting is done at the unit, in bursts of 3, 5 or 7 shots, or timelapse. The camera also enables bracketing 3 or 5 shots per photo dope for beautiful images in HDR.
The difference between the Phantom 3 Advanced and Phantom 3 Professional is in video mode of the camera. For the first is the Full HD (1920 x 1080) pixels at 60 frames per second. The camera also shoots in 1080p at 30fps, 720p at 30 and 60 fps. For the second, the image is “true” 4K (4096 x 2160 pixels) at 30 frames per second or 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) at 30 frames per second. The camera also shoots in 1080p and 720p. The videos are stored on a microSD card placed on board the aircraft, with a capacity of 32 to 64 GB max. The maximum rate of the video is 60 Mbps.
The camera is associated with a transmitter LightBridge. The image filmed by the camera The e-board is sent in real time to the receiver which is in radio control of Phantom 3 via a transmitter 2.4GHz 100mW in 720p resolution at 30 frames per second. Phantom 3 ControllerLe Remote viewing is done on the smartphone or tablet, connected to the radio with a USB cable. Latency says DJI, is 220ms “according to the conditions and the mobile device.” An online sharing function allows to broadcast the image in real time. Director is a module of the app DJI Pilot for editing videos, add music and post the result on sharing sites. Added to this simulator Phantom 3 and a logbook summarizing all flights.
