The blackmagic pocket cinema camera in the snowstorm

Filmed with my blacmagic pocket cinema camera in the snowstorm on the way from the “mas de la barque” to “Pic Cassini”, in the national park of Cevennes. At the start from the park it was -16  °C (3.2 °F) and at the top -30  °C ( -22  °F ), with the wind. Just the last seconds are filmed with the gopro session 5. The BMPCC is one of those cameras that offers incredible picture quality for the price but also presents many technical challenges to make it work.

My equipment did not get any problems. Just the fingertip froze when I removed my gloves to change the batteries… I was surprised at the effectiveness of the craft in the snowstorm. In general, batteries do not hold as much charge during the winter, but the trick is to keep them warm. I found out if I was shooting RAW for long periods, it was better. Shooting in RAW may have helped produce heat for the battery. Keeping the appliance warm will help you during cold weather shoots in general.

Filmed in RAW. colors gradued in Davinci Resolve. I let the original soundtrack the sound of the storm, for more sensation of cold and effort.
