Bird’s Surf Shed more than just a surf shop
Bird’s Surf Shed, more than just a surf shopI
I really wanted to go to the legend of San Diego, Bird’s Surf Shed, the true surf culture Of San Diego. The surf shop “Bird’s Surf Shed” is in a lightweight prefabricated structure of corrugated galvanized steel having a semicircular cross-section Quonset hut,he calls a shed. The design was based on the Nissen hut developed by the British during World War I. Owner Eric “Bird” Huffman, a native of San Diego, has spent a lifetime accumulating his collection. He collected hundreds of classic surfboards, but also has a prestigious collection of surfing memorabilia.
Bird’s Surf Shed ’s quonset hut is filled, from floor to ceiling, with over 1,400 surfboards. You can spend hours, a twisting your neck to look at everything, from ceiling to floor, away from the big brand stores to fashion. The atmosphere is very friendly.
There are also event at Bird’s Surf Shed. One evening I went to a screening of a surf movie in the shed. They move all the equipment on the sides or elsewhere, install chairs, a big screen. It’s great, I love it.
I highly recommend to visit this store, if you are visiting the area. Anyway, I think it’s always a bit with me, I have a t-shirt that I can wear everywhere.
